Don’t judge a product by it's label: Cosmetic ingredients that sound harmful, but are actually harmless

Cosmetic packaging can be so confusing; the front says the product will ‘harness the goodness of nature', but then the ingredient list seems to suggest otherwise.

We know the feeling, so we wanted to make it nice and simple for you to know exactly what’s inside all KOHLE products - and let us put it this way; we can proudly say all of our ingredients are pure, 100% natural, with key organic ingredients.

Below is a rundown of the trickiest ingredients which, if you didn’t know better, may sound pretty scary:

Bentonite and Kaolin clay: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut facemask and toothpaste. The clue is in the name here, these are different types of clay mineral, both abundant in Australia, with amazing healing properties, working with the other active ingredients to deeply clean and tighten the skin.

Glyceryl Stearate Citrate: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut facemask and toothpaste. Sounds synthetic, but we can assure you this pure ingredient is derived from a chemical reaction between vegetable oils and citric acid. It is used in our products as a 100% natural emollient agent, which thickens the product so it’s easier to apply and softens the skin.

Cetyl and Cetearyl alcohol: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut facemask. Alcohol has a bad rep, because of ‘benzyl’ alcohol, which is used in some cosmetics and is very harsh on the skin.

Our non-irritating alcohols are made from combination of fatty alcohols derived from vegetable sources, such as coconut or palm oils and use to help vitamin C penetrate the skin more effectively.

Xanthin Gum: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut facemask. This is a thickening and stabilising (to prevent ingredients from separating) agent, produced when sugars are fermented through a specialised process. It is 100% natural and is used in conjunction with Bentonite clay, with skin hydrating properties.

Geoguard Ultra: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut facemask, toothpaste and mouthwash. This is a natural preservative which is commonly used in organic products, as it contains no parabens or formaldehyde releasers, while still keeping the product nice and fresh.

Potassium Cocoate: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut toothpaste. A potassium salt that originates from the fatty acids present in coconut oil. We use it in our KOHLE products as a foaming agent, which makes the product easier to use.

Stevia Rebaudiana powder: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut toothpaste and mouthwash. Originally discovered and extracted from plant leaves in Japan this is a tried and tested natural sweetener, which makes our oral products taste delicious.

Caprylic / Capris Triglyceride: found in KOHLE activated charcoal and coconut mouthwash. These may sound scary, but are derived from coconut oil, to help enhance the delivery and absorption of the active ingredients within our products.

So there you have it. We believe that it really is what’s on the inside that counts and our 100% natural, vegan and cruelty-free products prove it! You can shop away knowing you’re only using the highest quality, pure KOHLE products on your skin, teeth and gums.
